It is summer and, as promised, I am doing some classes and consulting for folks who are ready to rock their creative side! Below are the July classes, but I would be happy to hear about any classes that you might like me to add so please let me know if you have any burning topics you would like covered. I invite you to make this a summer that you decide to embrace your creative side and engage with us as we get our Creative Mojo on!

Get a $15 Credit

I am opening my schedule to new and returning students and I would greatly appreciate it if you would recommend me to anyone you know who might be interested. If you do refer a student and they commit to 4 lessons, I will give you a $15 credit on your next lesson or class. If you are a returning student who commits to 4 lessons, I will allow the same credit.

I also offer private creativity consulting for any of you who find yourself stuck or frustrated with your creative expression or process.

All classes are $25 each, or $45 if you attend both classes offered on any one day. If you are a current student and bring a friend who pays the full amount, I will give you a $5 credit per class.

Saturday, July 9 … 4-5:30 Singing Circle

It is similar to a Drum Circle, but vocal. No “talent” required. Just bring yourself and a willingness to “Make a Joyful Noise”!

Saturday, July 9 … 6-7:30 Meet, Greet and Defeat your Fear

Do you panic when asked to speak in public, or love to sing, but are terrified of performance? Then this class is for you! Using visualization, exercises and journaling we begin the journey towards freeing ourselves of that fear and embracing our inner “Diva”.

Saturday, July 16 … 4-5:30 Introduction to Improvisational Singing

Improvisation is an important and expressive element in many forms of music. It can be as simple as approaching phrasing in new ways, or as complex as developing a viable vocal solo during performance. Open to singers of all levels.

Saturday, July 16 … 6-7:30 Improvisational Singing

A continuation of the basics covered in the Intro class. Open to anyone who has taken that class or to students with my prior approval.

Karen Gallinger has been teaching privately for nearly 3 decades. She was awarded a SURDNA Fellowship in 2010, and recently created a curriculum for Jazz Voice, which she used at The Orange County High School of the Arts, along with classes in Musical Theatre and Improvisation. She was previously on staff at various music schools in Orange County, and at the DePietro Performing Arts Center as an improv performer and instructor. Her annual forays to Europe include private students in Berlin and Munich, as well as being the vocal instructor at Jupanesti Jazz Camp, in Romania.
