Long regarded one of Southern California's finest jazz vocalists, Karen Gallinger (gal - in - jur) is a performer who blends artistic passion and mastery of her craft into a dynamic and unique package. A gifted composer and lyricist, her lyrics to a number of Bill Evans songs have been recorded by Tierney Sutton and Roseanna Vitro, among others. Ms. Gallinger currently headlines regularly in and around the Southern California area and has appeared at concerts, festivals and nightclubs in the USA, Europe and Asia.

Besides her musical performance schedule she is a writer and educator. She is currently on staff at the prestigious O.C. High School of the Arts teaching vocal jazz and theatre, and she is demand for clinics and master classes. She recently published her first book, The Zen of Singing, and is   working on a new book about performance and creativity.

More about the artist

Karen Gallinger is much more than a concert and recording artist. This multifaceted powerhouse has also made her mark as:

A Lyricist/ Composer:

Penning lyrics to a number of songs, including her acclaimed lyrics to pianist Bill Evans original songs, she has also composed, or collaborated on, songs ranging from blues to political satire and musical theatre.

 

An Educator/Author:

A private vocal teacher for over 20 years, Gallinger has done clinics and master classes ranging from technique to performance skills. She has recently published her first book: The Zen of Singing (ExecuProv Press, 2006. ISBN - 0-9765970-0-4) and is currently planning her next one. Besides her busy private coaching schedule, she is on staff at The Orange County High School of the Arts, where she teaches jazz voice and theatre.

 

A Writer/Producer:

Among the shows Ms. Gallinger has written and performed are a Tribute to Alan and Marilyn Bergman and a very impressive multimedia companion show to her Remembering Bill Evans recording. She also produced and hosted a monthly live series called "Sessions at the Grand Central". The series featured Southern California jazz musicians in an interview, performance and audience Q&A format.

 

An Actress/Comedian:

Over the years Gallinger has done voiceovers and live theatre as well as independent movies. Most recently she was a member of the Main Company of the O.C. Crazies, one of Orange County's premiere comedy improv troupes.
